Gender Outlaw

I came across Kate Bornstein’s book “Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women and the Rest of Us" this year and I was amazed at how much it resounded with me. I am not transgender, but I loved the way Kate wrote about inclusivity and how everyone has their own gender identity journey. Kate did not minimise my "male-ish" experience, but validated it.

As a recent graduate of Book Binding I wanted to honour this book, adding a visual and tactile element to the story.

I wish to highlight the place belonging to the mixed middle. The muted colours I have used in this work are a reflection of how I visually present myself to the world - not outwardly flashy, but not without hints of colour.
