Between Binaries (an abridged Gender Identity Spectrum)

I question my gender identity and through my artwork I explore the concept of Between Binaries - a concept that captures my interest in fluidity and where I sit on the "gender spectrum". I understand that people generally like to categorise themselves and likewise others categorise us. It is a way of simplifying the world. Fluidity can be confusing, it certainly has been for me on my continuing journey. I am mostly "male-ish" and realise that this is a perfectly ok place to be. It is a between area and I am an advocate for promoting voices from the middle. I am a champion for inclusion and do not wish to diminish the experiences of people on the extreme sides of the gender spectrum. I wish to highlight the place belonging to the mixed middle.

The muted colours I have used in this work are a reflection of how I visually present myself to the world - not outwardly flashy, but with subtle hints of colour, noticeable to the observant eye.

Works from my Between Binaries Series reveal inner held identities and presents them on an external face - much like how one might wear one’s heart on their sleeve.
